Virginia Relay Center (VRC)

The Virginia Relay Center is a public service of the Commonwealth of Virginia and is overseen by the Virginia Department of Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

The VRC relays conversations between people who use text telephones (TTY/TDD) or telebraille telephones (TB) and people who use voice telephones.

A person who has a hearing or speech disability can dial the VRC and type their conversation using a TTY/TDD. A person who is hearing and sight impaired may use either a TYY/TDD or TB. A skilled Communications Assistant (CA) reads the message and relays it to the hearing person at the other end. The CA then relays the hearing person's spoken words by typing them back to the TTY/TDD screen. Each call is kept strictly confidential.

Calls may be placed 24 hours every day including holidays.

TTY/TDD or TB users dial: 711 or 1-800-828-1120
Voice users dial: 1-800-828-1140
For directory assistance dial: 1-800-855-1155 (TTY/TDD)
