disconnect local service

Local telephone service in Virginia may be disconnected only if customers fail to pay for those regulated services, such as local dial tone service, provided by their local telephone company. Local telephone service cannot be disconnected for nonpayment of long distance charges or other non-regulated services or products even if the local telephone company bills these charges on behalf of other carriers or companies.

Customers may lose access to the long distance carrier or other company to whom they owe past due amounts and can be charged collection fees and interest on any unpaid amounts.
