Choosing Your Long Distance Company

With equal access, you can choose the long distance company that provides your "1+" dialing.

FairPoint Communications can continue to provide long distance service within the boundaries of your LATA. This is presently the Lynchburg, Danville, Farmville and South Boston areas. These long distance calls appear on your FairPoint bill under "Bell Atlantic."

There is no charge to select a long distance company when the original application for telephone service is made. If you change your Interlata long distance company, an Intrastate service charge of $5.00 and an Interstate service charge of $5.00 will apply. If you change your Intralata long distance company, an Intrastate service charge of $5.00 will apply. If you change both your Interlata and Intralata carriers at the same time, the total charge is $10.00. These rates are subject to change between directory issues.

You can determine your Interlata carrier by dialing 1-700-555-4141.

Callers can select a specific carrier, on a per-call basis, by dialing a Carrier Access Code (CAC) of 101 followed by a Carrier Identification Code (CIC). Each carrier has its own 4 digit code.

Customers may choose to have a PIC restriction placed on their line. A PIC restriction, or PIC freeze, prevents your long distance carrier from being changed without your written authorization. A separate PIC restriction is available for both your Interlata and Intralata carriers. This service is provided to our customers at no charge.
